Project Description

The Tite & Locke bar project at Lancaster Train Station transformed the unused Platform 3 building into an engaging social space, seamlessly blending modern amenities with the historical ambiance of the station. The design includes four main table seating areas, providing a comfortable and convenient arrangement for customers. The bar area is strategically placed adjacent to the main entrances, ensuring accessibility and flow for both commuters and visitors. Additionally, a dedicated coffee station caters to commuters seeking quick refreshments, making the venue appealing for both passing visitors and those looking for a longer stay.

A distinctive feature of the Tite & Locke bar is the exposed ‘beer cellar’ incorporated into the bar area. This unique design element allows customers to view the casks and kegs directly, creating an immersive experience that highlights the bar’s commitment to quality and transparency. Given the need to keep the beer cellar cooler than the seating area, specific provisions were made in the design to ensure this separation while maintaining visual accessibility for the public. The result is a unique feature which appeals to those with an appreciation for craft beverages and the brewing process.

The design also includes an outdoor seating area adjacent to the station’s car park. The main entrance to the bar from the car park runs through this outdoor space, making it a convenient spot for commuters to wait for their train and for locals to take a break from the busy surroundings. Practical features such as a bin store and an LPG gas store for the outdoor stoves were incorporated, ensuring the venue remains functional and in line with safety regulations.

With this well thought out design, the Tite & Locke bar has become a welcoming hub within Lancaster Train Station for both locals and commuters bringing new life to the station’s historic platform.
